History of the Cemetery:

This cemetery officially belonged to the Choice Methodist Church of the Norwegian-Danish Conference of the Methodist Church but the cemetery is more of a community cemetery than a Methodist cemetery. The Choice Methodist Church, built it 1874, was known in the early days as the Methodist Church at South Fork because there was no Choice at that time. The cemetery was likely started at this location as a private cemetery for John Ludvig and Stine Marie Larson who lived across the road from the cemetery. The oldest known burial is Marit Liza Larson in 1869, a daughter of John and Stine Larson. There are three other children of John and Stine buried next to Marit. Although John and Stine were Lutherans, they gave or possibly sold this land to the Choice Methodist Church for use as a cemetery.

There are many others who were not Methodists, including many from the South Fork Lutheran Church and some from the Scheie Lutheran Church, buried here. The oldest graves tend to be in the north-west part of the cemetery.

Graves are listed with two numbers, for example 10-34, where the first number (10 in this example) is the row and the second number (34 in this example) is the column. Rows run north and south with the western most row being number 1. Columns run east and west with the southern most column being number 1. Comments are enclosed by ( ). I cannot guarantee that the tombstone information and comments are 100% accurate.

Notes:
1. I was not sure of the death dates for 4-8, Jenny Vitse, and 10-27, Gordon Olson.
2. From this data it looks like the oldest burial was Maril Liza Larson, 3-33, in 1869. This makes sense because her
parents, John Ludvig and Stine Marie Larson, lived across the road from the cemetery so the cemetery must have started
out as a private cemetery of John and Stine Larson. It was common in the early days to have a private cemetery. There
are four young children of John and Stine buried next to each other, 3-32 through 3-35.
3. The stones and records have to be verified against this data. Some unknown burial locations were "placed" by others
where there was room on the chart.
4. This needs updating.
